HOW TO SAFELY USE THE HEAT PACK:
Heating in the microwave (warm compress):
1. Remove the heat pack from the mascot. It is strictly forbidden to heat the mascot.
2. Ensure the microwave is clean. Wipe any excess fat or food off the rotating plate (fat stains reach the maximum temperature very quickly and can burn a hole in the cotton heat pack).
3. Place the heat pack in the middle of the rotating plate. If the heat pack does not fit, gently fold it in half to ensure the grains are evenly distributed. Make sure that the heat pack does not touch the inner walls or metal elements of the microwave. The plate must rotate freely.
4. Heat up sequentially. Set the power to a maximum of 600 W for 45 seconds.
o Remove the heat pack and shake it vigorously to distribute the heat between the grains, as microwaves heat in patches.
o If the heat pack is not warm enough, it can be heated up in 10-15 second sequences. Monitor the temperature. The maximum heat time cannot exceed 90 seconds.
5. The 1-minute rule: Once heated, wait 1 minute before putting the heat pack back into the mascot. This allows the heat to safely transfer outside.
6. The wrist test: Before placing the weighted WarmHug on a baby, verify the temperature of the mascot by placing it on the inner side of your wrist. It should feel comfortable and pleasant (the maximum recommended temperature for newborns is 40°C).
HEATING IN THE OVEN:
1. Remove the cotton heat pack from the mascot.
2. Place the heat pack in a clean heatproof dish (do not place directly on the rack or in metal tray).
3. Heat in 100-110°C for 10-15 minutes (do not use the grill function)
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING HEATING
· DO NOT REHEAT: The heat pack must be left to cool down to room temperature before it can be heated again. Attempting to reheat before that may lead to a build-up of energy, charring of the grains inside and damage to the fabric.
Cooling (Cold compress): In order to use the weighted WarmHug as a cold compress, wrap the dry heat pack in a plastic bag (this will protect the pack from moisture and oudor) and place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
HOW LONG CAN YOU SAFELY USE A WEIGHTED WARMHUG?
· Weight of the heat pack: approx. 300g
· The safe weighting rule: In accordance with neonatal and paediatric guidelines, weighted products (which stimulate deep sensation) should account for 5% to 10% of the baby’s body weight.
· Intended use: weighted WarmHug is perfectly correlated mathematically for babies weighing between 3 kg (300 g = 10% of body weight) and 6 kg (300 g = 5% of body weight).
· Single session duration: The maximum recommended time for continuous placement of the weighted WarmHug on a child's tummy or body is 20–30 minutes. After this time, the nervous system adapts to the stimulus, and the product should be removed.
WASHING AND CARE
1. Mascot: After removing the heat pack, the mascot can be machine washed at a temperature of up to 40°C on a delicate cycle. Lay flat to dry. Do not iron.
2. Triticale and lavender heat pack: STRICTLY NO EXPOSURE TO WATER OR MOISTURE. The heat pack cannot be washed, soaked or wiped with wet cloth. The natural grain loses its properties instantly upon contact with water and creates the risk of microorganism growth (mould, fungi). If the cotton is stained on the surface, the heat pack can only be dry cleaned (for example, using a brush).
