Until what age can myHummy help my child fall asleep?

Now that you are parents, you know that your little one calms down, falls asleep and then sleeps peacefully to the soothing sound of the beloved myHummy bear. Yet, our little ones grow up so fast and they grow out of some things in the blink of an eye. What about white and pink noise? How long can this teddy be used for?

The fourth trimester
There is a theory that a human baby is born 3 months too early, considering the baby’s actual developmental needs. However, the baby’s size at 40 weeks of pregnancy and their metabolic requirements trigger the need to change the living environment to the outside world.

According to Dr Harvey Karp, a world-known paediatrician and expert on child development, at the moment of birth a newborn is not ready to deal with all the stimuli coming from the outside world. A newborn needs time to adapt and this takes at least 3 months, hence the term “fourth trimester”.

White and pink noise can help recreate the familiar environment baby is accustomed to and ease the transition to the big world. In his theory of “5S”, Dr Karp lists the five key elements for soothing and lulling the youngest babies. These are: 1. Swaddle, 2. Side or stomach position, 3. Shush, 4. Swing, 5. Suck.

The first year
Baby’s nervous, digestive and circulatory systems are still developing. The physical closeness of the parent that creates a sense of securty and the right amount of sleep all play a key part in baby’s development.

That is why it is only natural to continue to use the 5S method, including “shushing”, for infants over 3 months.

Soothing help
The first days in the big wide world might be overwhelming for a baby. Just imagine – the safe little bubble they’re used to is no longer there and a baby might feel confused and lost. Skin to skin contact is recommended in the beginning to help them feel safe and loved, as well as help with their development.

The sounds emitted by hearts of myHummy bears include white and pink noise, as well as the heartbeat and the sound of waves. These sounds have been carefully chosen and as they resemble noises babies heard in the womb, quite often they will play a huge part in recreating the familiar environment and help newborns fall asleep peacefully.

For some older children, falling asleep might occasionally be tricky, too – especially after days full of excitement and new experiences.  As a matter of fact, white and pink noise can have a soothing effect on people of all ages. It should come as no surprise, then, to see your fearless pre-schooler reach for their beloved myHummy bear after a busy day of playing around!

myHummy bear will be a friend for years to come ❤️
